The 6 Hair Clips You Need To Nail The Most Affordable Trend of 2019!

Not ready to grow up yet? Lucky you… you don’t have to. One of my absolute favorite accessory trends for 2019 is 90s hair clips. In 2019, people are spending over $200 for the designer version of these statement items. Don’t worry though, most of my selections for you to shop will be way more affordable. It is a minimal effort, low price way to elevate any outfit. Only have time to put on a sweater and jeans? Sad because staying warm this winter means sacrificing style sometimes? Just adding a hair clip can make you stand out and look far more trendy.

I remember a year ago, I began to notice more and more people wearing 90s hair clips. Hair clips are historically meant to be hidden. Bobby pins are sold in blonde, brunette, and sometimes even red to blend into a woman’s hair color. Growing up in the 2000s, this type of accessory was usually reserved for children which worked out because I was one. I always found it hard to love my hair as a child so adorning myself with different braids and hair clips helped me. In my teenage years, I rejected these types of hair accessories but begged my parents to let me get a hot pink or purple highlights. Thank God, they didn’t let me! Now that this trend is in full swing, I have been reaching for my decorative bobby pins more than ever before. I am scouring Amazon constantly for the greatest hair clips that I can find. This has become something I use to pair with my outfit at least once a week and I have loved getting into it. Here are my favorite types of hair clips to get the look today.

Logomania Hair Clips

This is where hair clips get really crazy. People are paying up to $1,000 to get a brand name on their hair accessory. This is such an elegant and simple touch to any outfit that really brings in a punch when it comes with a designer name. Currently, the Gucci hair clip is a cult item that I have been seeing a lot of on Instagram. I found a dupe on Etsy that gives you the same look for only $20. The designer that I first noticed this in was Versace. The runway show last season was so majestic to me and every model had identical medusa embellished bobby pins on both sides of their heads. That was when I truly fell in love with the trend and started wearing it more frequently. The runway is my favorite place to find my style inspiration so that is where I am starting with this trend review.

Embellished Bobby Pins

My first time buying into this trend in the fall after fashion month was with an embellished bobby pin set. Frasier Sterling is always on top of any jewelry trend and when I saw that they had a set of hairpins, I jumped at the opportunity. I wear these all the time, casual or dressy, and with everything. I am so glad I got them because I would feel so left out of the trend without them. Hair clips can be a lot to commit too if they are bulky and flashy. I chose to start with bobby pins since they are more subtle and blend more with anything I could choose to wear. This is definitely a great place to start.

Barrettes

Known for a quick snap, this accessory is what most people think of when talking about hair clips. These look best in half up, half down styles. I also love matching barrettes framing both sides of the face like in the Versace show I mentioned earlier. A barrette has less functional purposes than a bobby pin and is mostly for decor. When you have thick hair like me you can’t really depend on it to hold everything up all day. But it sure is pretty! This is the cherry on top to a stylish look.

Pearl Hair Clips

This is a direction I have wanted to go in for a while with my hair clip choices. I have always loved to wear pearls and think they are elegant but can really look great with anything. This is a more bold approach than my rookie attempts for sure. I think this type of hair clip would work best with a feminine and neutral type of outfit.

90s Butterfly Hair Clips

This is where my mind goes when I daydream about the full potential that hair clips have. The butterfly clip is so classic 2000s. It is a big statement to make when you have a full crown of butterfly clips but such a cool statement to make. I haven’t found an opportunity yet to give this a try but when I do, I will be sure to share some pictures. This one definitely brings me back to my childhood. Having a bad hair day? Throw these on to get yourself out of that rut.

Geometric Hair Clips

Similar to the bobby pin, this is a great starting point for experimenting with hair accessories. A lot of circle pins are circulating (lol) on my Instagram feed. The slim and minimalist design is another subtle addition to your wardrobe. This type of hair clip normally comes in a geometric pattern and a simple metallic color. This is more of a casual hair accessory and could not really be dressed up as easily but great for the work week.

So clearly, I have been thinking about this trend a lot. I really have to stress that of all the things fashion throws our way, this can be the cheapest and easiest addition to your wardrobe. Even on days when I am in sweatpants sometimes adding a touch like this makes me feel empowered. I still have a lot of different ways I want to expand on this trend. I am already shopping my own blog post! Thinking of writing about headbands next, what hair accessory trends are you loving for 2019?

UPDATE 5/8/2019:
