Do you ever feel like a trend is relentlessly begging for your attention? No matter how much I tried to ignore the countless snakeskin outfits on my feed, they finally got through to me. I noticed this trend as one of the biggest this fall starting around September. At fashion week, it felt like out of nowhere everybody was wearing this print. This happened last year with the color red and the year before with velvet. Luckily, I already had a snakeskin bag and was immediately online looking for new ways to fill my closet with everyone’s new favorite print. I slowly transitioned into this trend; here is a timeline of how I fell in love by accident.
June: The Bag
I did not know that this would be such a big trend when I purchased this bag, I was just looking for something unique to celebrate my birthday. Full snakeskin outfits are extremely bold so it is easy to introduce yourself to the trendy with a classic accessory. I found my way to this purchase over the summer by surprise. I originally had ordered the bag in a solid color online but I felt drawn to the snakeskin print and made an exchange shortly after receiving the item. This bag has been by my side ever since after having my eye on it for so long.

July: The Sneakers
My second purchase was also by mistake, having not realized how big of a trend this would be. I am a big fan of Nike Huarache’s and they are my go-to sneakers. I always have my eyes on a new pair of them to add to my collection. This is a subtle touch of snakeskin for those who are more cautious with proceeding into this trend. When I was in Hawaii, I was looking for a new athletic shoe and this really caught my attention. At this point, I was not setting my sights on specifically snakeskin items so I feel like these shoes naturally found me.

October: The Mini Skirt
A good amount of time had passed since my snakeskin sneaker purchase. I ended up finding this denim mini skirt that really brought the trend directly into my personal style. Mini skirts have been my one true pairing for my entire life and I am truly obsessed with them. It was so easy for me to pull the trigger on this one. Easy to wear to anywhere from class to going out, I knew this would quickly become a wardrobe staple. The first time I wore this, I took a risk in order to make this outfit as “fall” as possible. Plaid and snakeskin are the absolute must-haves of the season so of course, I wore them at the same time. I was genuinely nervous to commit to this outfit but I definitely have no regrets.

The Other Snakeskin Items You Won’t Survive Fall Without
I mainly have worn accessories as opposed to full snakeskin outfits but I want to really dive deeper into this. A lot of the amazing women I follow on Instagram have given me great inspiration for other ways to style this trend that are even bolder. I have a long shopping list, as always, but I definitely want more and more of this print in my closet. I feel like as we get closer to winter I have less opportunity to commit fully to my outfits so I need to get on this and so do you!
The Trench
Wearing a coat like this over anything can make every outfit you wear trendy—even if it’s just leggings or sweats. A lot of very high-end designers are making this for the fall at very high prices. I think the best low priced option, that will still look designer, is by the fashion girl favorite—I Am Gia. Their pick is selling out everywhere super fast so if you want it you have to get on it fast! It is the perfect outer layer for any snakeskin outfit and I am hoping for a restock soon.

The Boots
This is the snakeskin outfit staple that I feel like everyone has but me. I have been looking for the perfect snakeskin boots for a while. I ordered a pair of snakeskin Dr. Martin’s but when they arrived, I did not love them as much as I thought I would. I had to return them because I wanted to spend in a more staple pair of boots but still loved them. I think for me the perfect and most flattering option is a knee-high with a mid-heel and a cool toned color. All of the ones, that I have found are out of my budget though because I am looking for something under $150. I still have favorites in this style though but since I’m on the lookout, let me know if you find a pair for me! I am leaning towards the Mango option.

…And Everything In Between
There really is no shortage of ideas when it comes to snakeskin outfits. Animal prints, in general, seem to be coming in all shapes and sizes and it’s finally acceptable to go all out. I love the idea of wearing a mini-dress for fall and definitely want to give that a try. Zara is going to be my go-to for anything else snakeskin because they really offer a form of the trend for everybody. Here are the rest of my favorites:
If you are looking to really invest in snakeskin outfits, start with accessories like bags and shoes. Snakeskin clothes will go out of style within the next two years but a snakeskin bag is always in vogue. Elevating a simple outfit by adding a fun print is always a good idea.
