It is crazy for me to say that this is my fourth fashion week. That makes this New York Fashion Week diary bittersweet. When I started this blog, I really admired and looked up to bloggers who attended the shows. It was one of my dreams at the time—something I thought I would not be able to accomplish until I was out of college and a few years into my job. When dreams become a reality it is easy to forget how special they are. I am still starstruck watching the amazing models and designs sashay down the runway. These experiences are something I would not trade for the world and will probably never forget.

Every year during this time, people repeat this one quote from Sex & The City. “The women of New York leave the past behind and look forward to the future.” Being in the room where this all happens is something that helps me do my job of finding the greatest trends and reporting them to you. It is such a beautiful thing! Even if I did not attend the shows, I used to follow along obsessively on Vogue Runway keeping lists of the trends that I picked up on. So if you have not been able to spend a week with the runway don’t give up and keep reading along as best as you can. Trends I saw on the streets were hair clips, animal print, neon, corduroy, tie-dye and monochrome.

I was lucky enough to attend a few runway shows and the most impactful was the first. At Colina Strada, attendees were called to be conscious of the environmental impact that fashion has. Xiuhtezcatl Martinez spoke of his experience as an indigenous person and how that has taught him to love the earth. Instead of music, hearing these powerful words was really impactful and made me reflect on my own shopping choices.
The casting at this show spoke to the topic of diversity. Strada showed the world that everyone is invited into the world of fashion. The elderly, a baby, and even a pregnant woman walked with confidence and poise. Many of the models casually ate their lunch or sipped a water bottle as they walked. This was the first show I attended and the one that I will remember the most because it was unique and bold. This brand is definitely on my eye now.
I was able to attend some other shows but this was definitely my busiest fashion week ever. I spent more time in the city than ever—but was so busy trying to fit in work, friends, networking, and attending a few shows. This week has made me more grateful for the remaining time at school because I get a break from all of this craziness and work on my own schedule. New York City will finally be my home again in just a few short months. Until then, I have a new strategy for my blogging and will be working on expanding my content. Thanks for following along!
