I have been really into following streetwear accounts on Instagram lately and it has begun to shape my sense of style. I am low-key obsessed with the carefree, athletic, street girl style that has been thriving lately. It is more than just the fashion choices but also the lifestyle that I want to be part of. It is the perfect healthy balance of self-confidence and spontaneity that I want for myself. I have been so obsessed with this lately that I knew I had to write about the best streetwear stores in NYC.
There are parts of SoHo that have a lot of the best streetwear stores in NYC so I knew I wanted to shoot this look there. This look was the perfect way to combine my personal style with the streetwear vibes I am loving. I have been a fan of I Am Gia for the longest time and I finally made my first purchase from there. I love wearing skirts and dresses so much and that is something that I want to hold onto as my style changes. Finding an edgy streetwear dress was exactly what I needed to wade deeper into the streetwear trends and I finally found this one.
My shoes are something very special to me that even the best streetwear stores in NYC did not have. They are a rare pair of Jordans that have an embellished gold logo on them and suede. I am obsessed. There is not really anything like them online and their uniqueness makes them special to me. The best streetwear looks start from the feet up so that is why they always help me put together the best outfits.
While this is a borderline streetwear feminine look, many of the other stores I visit are on the edgier side. You can really find something for every budget even at some of the famous streetwear locations. Here are the streetwear stores in NYC that you have to stop by when you are in New York or taking a day trip to shop in SoHo.
Kith
This is my favorite streetwear store of all time. It is like a department store for streetwear that carries all of the coolest brands. They have their own line that is comfortable and affordable. While they sell a lot of big name brands they also feature new and upcoming designers. I love the vibe of the store because it makes the shopping experience really fun. They focus on menswear but have a great women’s section as well! To really ace the streetwear game as a woman you have to dabble in both men’s and womenswear. The setup makes it really easy to venture into men’s.
I can’t talk about Kith without mentioning my favorite part, Kith Treats. This reminds me of Cereal Killer cafe in London because they mix soft serve ice cream with any type of cereal you can imagine. Loads of celebrities have participated in this shopping tradition and Kith gives you the opportunity to try out their favorite combinations. I recommend sharing with a friend because the serving sizes are so big!
Search & Destroy
This is a personal favorite that isn’t technically a streetwear store in NYC. A vintage store located near NYU, this might be the creepiest place you will ever enter. The inside of their store is so bizarre that you are not even allowed to take photos when you enter. The reason I mention it because they have a wide variety of t-shirts that look really great with other streetwear items. If you are looking for something completely unique, this is the place to be. Most of what you will see here, you won’t find anywhere else.
VFiles
This store has such a good vibe! They have a great collection of streetwear including their own personal brand. The store is well-curated with a smaller group of items and that is what makes finding something there that you like special. There is a big community surrounding this one that spends all of their time outside of the store as I realized. This comes partially from the fact that VFiles has a lot of events that bring together a community interested in fashion, art, and music. I definitely want to try to make it out to one of their events. We shot these photos right outside of VFiles simply because that part of SoHo has such a cool vibe. If I could identify as one part of New York that would be it.
Stussy
This ’90s hip-hop favorite is also a big favorite amongst the skateboarding and surfing community. The brand was founded by Shawn Stussy who had a very interesting signature that he had been putting on his surfboards. He brought his California lifestyle to a store in SoHo that is still open more than 20 years later. Still known as one of the best streetwear stores in NYC, they have a wide variety of branded products. My current favorite is their swimsuit (sold out basically everywhere) as well as their oversized tote bag. When it comes to this brand, I love shopping their menswear. A lot of the streetwear stores in NYC have long lines outside of it but at this one you are more likely to get lucky. The brand is carried at many other stores including Urban Outfitters and VFiles but visiting the SoHo store is worth making a visit to.
Shopping in New York is amazing and while I spend a lot of time browsing the fast fashion stores on Broadway, these smaller SoHo essentials are definitely my favorites to stop by. These streetwear stores in NYC are always serving up unique options and I get so much inspiration just from taking a walk through a few of them. Knowing you are shopping in the best city in the world certainly makes it even more fun. Did I miss anything? Let me know your favorites and I will go check them out!! xx
